Is GIIS Chinchwad a bagless school?

Children need to carry books as per the timetable for the day. However, in the Pre-Primary and Primary classes, students are encouraged to keep most of the books in School and carry their Note books on weekends

Will homework be given to children?

Homework is an integral part of the curriculum and serves to further reinforce what has been taught in class. Homework will be minimal and not stressful. There is a home work schedule/ policy in place.

Will spoken English be encouraged in the school?

The medium of instruction is English and teachers speak only in English. Children are also encouraged to speak in English at all times in the school premises.


What is the handwriting policy of the school?


The school has no compulsion on any particular form though, in Pre-Primary and Primary section, MR script ( Marion Richardson ) is introduced. The school has students from all across the country and abroad as well. Many progressive schools across the world are going in for a child friendly writing style hence the school has adopted this unique exercise.

What are the criteria of recruiting teachers?

GIIS teachers are highly qualified and along with a minimum degree in the subject to be taught, it is compulsory to have completed Bachelors in Education. For Senior Secondary post graduation in the subject to be taught is mandatory. Pre-Primary teachers need to be graduates with minimum certification in ECCE or Montessori Training.

Pre-Primary classes follow a specially designed Global Montessori Plus curriculum.

What is the attrition rate of teachers and reasons thereof?

The teacher attrition rate of the school is very minimal and normal by industry standards. Teachers leave the school to either relocate or due to health issues.

What is the balance between academics and other activities in the school?

The school has foremost been known for its academics and the experiential learning that is offered here. The main USP of GIIS Chinchwad is the happiness and satisfaction of the students an important key to overall development- ‘the best way to make children good is to make them happy.’ We believe in making our students life-long learners.

What are the CCA/ECA/ Hobby Clubs/Music classes and after school activities available in the school? Are coaches appointed for same?

Time and again parents have appreciated the existing ECA/CCA, Hobby Club activities and presentations. The Special Assembly is a unique facet of our school (The feedback registers of the school are a testimony to this). The Music team of the school has consistently won accolades for the school across different levels and competitions.

The school has a well structured Sports Department including EduSports (for Pre-Primary and Primary students). The students of the school have been winning recognition at District, Zonal, State and National levels. Sports are specialized in senior classes.

After-School sports and music classes are conducted regularly and there are well-paid and regular coaches for the same. An additional fee needs to be paid to avail this facility.

Will the school take students for educational excursions?

Yes. Excursions and educational trips are a part of the active learning process in GIIS Schools. These are organised on a regular basis as indicated in the school almanac.


Will the school celebrate all festivals?


As an International school, with over 52 nationalities worldwide, GIIS encourages students to understand and appreciate all cultures. Regular activities and celebrations facilitating this, are a part of the school calendar.

What are the Annual School functions at GIIS Chinchwad?

The school has been holding the Annual Concert every year for different segments on a rotation basis. As there are a large number of students in the school, it makes better sense to have an assortment of programmes. In addition, annual events as Hobby Club presentations, Special Assemblies, Sahodaya meet and Inter GIIS competitions are held. We host Mega Annual events such as Carnivals, Melange, Exhibitions, and also Graduation Days for the Pre-Primary Section.

Are parents allowed to participate in school events?

Parents are allowed to participate and put up stalls during school events on a purely optional basis which in no way is compulsory. This is done in consultation with our Events Team.


What are the school meal guidelines?


Right from its inception stage, the school has been very particular about the food carried and given to students within the school premises. The school follows certain set, healthy and nutritious meal menus prepared by parents at home. The school cafeteria provides Hygienic and nutritious food.

Will the school authorities be taking adequate measures to ensure hygiene in the school?
  GIIS Chinchwad maintains a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in line with International standards of the GIIS schools. There are regular checks and monitoring done by the school administration.
What first aid will you provide in school in case of any casualty?

In keeping with International Standards, an in-house medical nurse is available throughout school hours to attend to all minor injuries and medical emergencies. For major emergencies, the student will be taken to the nearby hospital and parents will be informed simultaneously. The school has a tie-up with the very well known Aditya Birla Hospital.

What is the quality of infrastructure offered currently?

The school makes every effort to make the environment comfortable for the children. The laboratories are well equipped, playground venues (lawn), hard court area in front of the reception is made available as well the cafeteria and half basketball court.

What are the student safety measures for parts of the school which are under construction? What are the set deadlines for these units?

The school is building a world class facility in line with our international standards. The infrastructure as it currently stands is self sufficient for the current student body. However, the school is currently in a stage of active development to complete a one of a kind facility with all three bars operational .

Safety and security of the students is our primary concern. The development areas are carefully cordoned off by safety nets/protective sheets and not within bounds of students and the general public.


What are the transportation facilities provided by the school?


The school has outsourced the transportation to accredited vendors. The average age of the fleet of buses is about 10 months presently. The agency has:

  • Provided an RFID card to each student as a safety and security measure.
  • Installed a GPS through which the buses are tracked by the school on daily basis.
  • Provided for an SMS alert facility that is available but optional. It will be activated for interested parents on special request as it is chargeable.
  • Ensured that there is zero tolerance for any sort of misconduct by bus attendants. They undergo meticulous weekly training sessions on etiquette and code of conduct to be followed in the bus. To ensure compliance with the RTO norms, route-wise quarterly Audit of each bus is carried out by the Transport Coordinator and the conduct of bus attendants and drivers are monitored.

Additional safety measures taken are:

  • Use of breath analyzer test for the drivers to ensure that they are addiction free.
  • The first pick up and last drop off point parents are telephonically contacted to ensure the presence of lady attendant in the bus at that point of time.
  • Pest control measures are taken on daily basis to ensure comfortable travelling experience for students.
What is the kind of security offered to the students?
  The school has installed CCTV in all corridors, entrances, and near washrooms to monitor the campus thoroughly. The school has employed a security agency that takes responsibility of protection to the building and students. The guards and security force undergo tutoring and monitoring on a daily basis. There are female attendants on every floor. The buses have teachers and attendants accompanying the students. We take the safety and security of our stakeholders very seriously and any non compliance by our employees results in an immediate termination of services.
What is the policy regarding sale of school accessories for the students?

The school takes all possible measures to provide and maintain quality uniform for the students. The vendors are selected after rigorous quality screening. We ensure that international standards are maintained and there is uniformity among students. We ask our vendors to stand by the products that are sold by them. The school never compromises on the set standards and does not entertain requests to compromise on the quality or look and feel of the products that we use.

How do the parents communicate with the school?

mygiis portal is an active platform for parent communication. New features are regularly updated and shared with parents from time to time.

What is the PTA?
  PTA is the Parent Teacher Association. All parents are a part of the PTA.
What is CCM? What is the composition?

The CCM is the Core Committee Members or the Executive Committee of the school formed to deal with matters regarding school activities, policies and fees. It comprises of members of the PTA who are the parents and teachers of the school as per the regulations.

The ratio of parents and teachers in the CCM is as prescribed in the guidelines that is adopted by the school. The Principal is the chairperson of the CCM.
Can non CCM members attend CCM meetings? Do they have voting rights?

Non CCM members can attend the meeting as special invitees through prior permission and with approval of the principal. They may sign the attendance sheet but they do not have any qualifying voting rights, which is strictly reserved for the members of CCM.


What is MOM? How is it recorded?

  The Memorandum of Minutes records all the major points which are discussed during the meeting. These are complied and listed and sent to the respective member
What is the school policy for employees who indulge in addictive substance?

The school has adopted a policy where the administration and group 4 employees are frisked at the entry point for carrying any addictive substance.

Is Pre-Nursery necessary for all children?
  Pre-Nursery is an important step for toddlers to start interaction with the world independently. It is a bridge for the children from home to the “big” school where children come together and learn with the instructors in a fun way.
What is there in the Pre-Nursery curriculum?
  Our curriculum at GIIS Pre-Nursery is focused on the 5 developmental areas - cognitive, curiosity, confidence, core development and creativity. The development is achieved using various activities like singing, dance, music, painting, games, story time, reading, art and craft, etc. This builds social skills, math and language skills, motor skills. We use a constructive discovery model where students learn concepts from working with materials, rather than by direct instruction. We used specialized educational materials developed by Montessori and her collaborators. Our spacious and well-designed infrastructure provides a safe environment for the children and freedom of movement.
